A Moment in Time
I feel immensely proud because at a time when it seems nothing can change this course we are heading in American history, the feeling has changed. My professor once said that in times of strife, struggle, and war leadership arises and transforms a nation. Our founding fathers came from the foggy bottoms of the American Revolution. Abraham Lincoln rose from the ashes of a nation tearing itself apart. Franklin D. Roosevelt stood amidst the rubble of the most horrific war of all time and proclaimed our country the greatest. Now amidst the war against ideologies that seek to destroy us, as we become more and more dependent on actors outside our borders comes possibly the most transcendent leader of my lifetime.
A man with a common background given the freedoms of this country to use his extraordinary gifts. An underdog who devised a strategy to shake the status quo. I know he will not be able to solve all of our problems, fix all black issues, all poverty issues. But it is with my hope that he sets a new direction for our country to go in which we all from birth have an opportunity to be great and that circumstances such as family lineage, socioeconomic status, and ethnicity are not barriers but great flavors which make our nation that stew of democracy.
Hope, country established on the promise of freedoms and the hope that its children will be able to prosper and progress. Change, a country built on the ideal that a republic, very much different than a monarchy, can be the change the world seeks. As Americans it is our nature to hope for change, from the pulpits to elementary children learning to read. We hope for change today for a better tomorrow.
We stand at this moment in time
Glad to Be American!

MegaBus (5-27-09)
Last night, I took the MegaBus to Toledo, Ohio so that I can attend the Ohio Delegation meeting in Columbus, Ohio. The MegaBus is a greyhound like company with extremely low fares and also really great service. It is very accessible and you have to go to Union Station in Chicago to catch it.
I noticed many types of people from all different parts of the Midwest at the station and on the Bus. A former UT football player, some college students, foreign-born citizens and such. It reminds me of how diverse and similar we can all be in our country. Everyone has a destination and everyone has someone waiting for them. I think if we focus on that, we will be a better people in general. The commonalities of dreams and having caring and loving families, make the Midwest and the US of A a great place.
